Smudge

Smudge is a beautiful, sweet, smart, and funny shepherd/husky mix girl who is ready to find a patient and loving forever home. 💛

At first, Smudge can be a little shy and timid, but once she learns she’s safe, her playful and affectionate personality shines through. She absolutely loves cuddles, pets, and spending time with her people. She’s the perfect balance of playful energy and calm companionship — equally happy bouncing around with a toy or curling up beside you for a nap.

Smudge loves “shopping” through her toy box to find the perfect toy to proudly bounce around with, and she enjoys getting her humans involved in playtime. She’s very smart, highly food motivated, and is already learning commands like sit, stay, and come very quickly.

She sleeps well in her crate but has also been enjoying nights on her dog bed beside her humans, occasionally sneaking onto the bed for extra snuggles. 🥰

Smudge is still learning that the world can be a safe place. Walks can be overwhelming for her, especially around loud or large vehicles like buses and garbage trucks. She may cower or lay down when frightened, but with patience, reassurance, and continued positive experiences, she’s already making progress. Because of her nervousness outdoors, she’s happiest heading back home where she can relax, zoom around the yard, and finally do her business.

She would do best with someone who understands that fear can still sit just under the surface for her. Fast movements or loud voices can sometimes startle her, and she needs time to continue building confidence and trust.

Smudge does need supervision when left alone outside of her crate — otherwise tissues, household items, and backyard digging projects may become her self-appointed “jobs.” 😂 Keeping her mentally stimulated and involved is important for this clever girl.

She has done well around a baby, always gentle and respectful, and has previously lived with a cat who she desperately wanted to befriend. She tends to warm up faster to women and may need extra patience with men as she learns she no longer has to be afraid.

Smudge will bring so much joy, laughter, and love to the right family willing to give her the patience and understanding she deserves.
