Ridley

Ridley is stubborn, willful, and hardheaded. He is also loving, happy, and affectionate. He has scars on his skin from his previous life. He will eyeball you if he disagrees with your instruction. I am very patient and respect his will. He worked hard to survive when he was young and succeeded, so I am always aware that his way works, even if it isn't my way. Ridley weighs around 80 pounds. He is very powerful and reacts to other dogs when on a leash. He is also territorial about the road in front of our home. I am no match for his strength, so I use a Halti lead and a harness to walk him. He has improved dramatically in the past year but still has much to learn. He grew up without much correction, so it is okay to bark incessantly in his world. If you redirect his attention, he will respond but might still bark. He is not suited to an apartment because of this. He likes his kennel for random naps but does not like being left in it when we go out. My husband works from home, so Ridley only spends a little time alone. He steals my things (a brush, a sock, a paper towel) but only to show me he can. He loves to snuggle when sleepy; he prefers to split his nights between the couch and our bed. He loves to be " tucked in" with blankies and pillows. We walk about 5 km daily; he will not do a number 2 when walking. He prefers to wait until we return to his fenced backyard's privacy. Ridley is a loving, promiscuous dog. He adores being outside, loves tearing his toys apart, and likes to play fetch. He struggles to give you back the ball so you can throw it again. He has a horrible time with any form of chicken protein. He must be in a car seat when you drive, or he will attempt to get on your lap. Ridley is convinced he is a lap dog regardless of his weight. He will let you clean out his ears and bathe him but is not a fan of having his nails trimmed. Overall Ridley is a wonderful companion and addition to any home that respects his needs and is willing to learn to communicate with him.
