Description
Sweet Ernest is searching for his retirement home and can’t wait to claim your bed as his own.
Ernest came into foster care with his sister, Lola, after living on an acreage with his four siblings. This handsome 12-year-old Blue Heeler/Shepherd cross is the perfect example of everything people love about heelers. Intelligent, fiercely loyal, and just a little bit bossy, Ernest takes his job of looking after his people very seriously.
A true Velcro dog, Ernest will follow you from room to room and gently herd you toward bed when he decides it’s time to call it a night. He’s always nearby when you’re home, but the dog camera reveals his secret: the moment his foster family leaves, he’s straight to the bed for a well-earned nap. Clearly, he knows how to relax when he’s off duty.
It’s obvious Ernest was deeply loved before coming into care. He is in great health for his age, with plenty of pep in his step. He enjoys trips to the off-leash park, jumps into vehicles and onto couches with ease, and handles stairs like a much younger dog.
What Ernest is not looking for is puppy chaos. His days of roughhousing and toy collecting are behind him. Instead, he’s searching for a quiet home where he can enjoy a predictable routine, plenty of naps, and the company of people he loves. Grand adventures aren’t necessary—an occasional stroll and some quality cuddle time are more his speed.
Ernest is house-trained, trustworthy when left loose in the home, rides beautifully in the car, and gets along well with other dogs both inside and outside the household. He’s also cat-friendly. He would do especially well with another calm, older canine companion who doesn’t expect him to play or provide entertainment.
While Ernest tends to warm up to women a little faster than men, he comes around in his own time and forms strong bonds with those who show him patience and kindness.
If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, and calm companion who asks for little more than belly rubs, a cozy bed, and your company, Ernest may be the perfect match. Senior dogs have so much love left to give, and one look into Ernest’s eyes is enough to see how grateful he is for every kindness shown to him.
After spending twelve years being a devoted companion, Ernest deserves a family who will cherish him through his golden years. Could that family be yours?
