Phoenix

Description
This little kitty has been through a lot in his short life. Like the majestic phoenix, he once thrived, enjoying love and comfort in the arms of his person. Sadly, his owner passed away, which sent poor Phoenix down a path of great sorrow. After trying to find his place in a new home, Phoenix continued to struggle and was surrendered into the care of the rescue. When he arrived, it was very clear that this once thriving kitty was hurting, both emotionally and physically. Underweight and covered in sores, Phoenix had a difficult time trusting anyone with his heart again.
After a few visits with the vet, he was given a potential diagnosis of Alopecia. His once soft and thick coat had become patchy and replaced with sensitive and painful sores. Thankfully, antibiotics and steroids helped him manage the discomfort and find his motivation again. Like the phoenix, he appeared to have burnt out and lost his flame. But at his core, Phoenix was waiting to rise back to his former glory!
It has taken a whole lot of patience, love, food, treats, and understanding, but this Phoenix is once again ready to soar. He still has a ways to go with continuing to gain back weight and grow his fluffy coat, but he is proving his determination to find himself again. Phoenix has a heart full of love and desperately wants to feel safe and loved in the arms of someone he trusts. He also seems to want to make friends with the other kitty in his foster home. We’re unsure exactly what triggered his symptoms prior to his arrival in the rescue, but likely stress was at the root of it, leading to poor nutrition, lack of grooming, and the spiral of symptoms that came with it.
Being mindful of his past, and hopeful for his future, Phoenix will likely do best in a home that is willing to give him the time, space, and patience he needs to rebuild trust. He clearly had a strong bond with his former owner, one that is going to be difficult to replace. Phoenix will need someone understanding and willing to build that relationship, but earning this guys trust and loyalty will certainly be worth it! He gives the sweetest head bumps and will crawl right into your lap. He loves to cuddle in a cozy blanket and follow you around to investigate what you’re doing. This Phoenix is truly ready to rise again!
